Aberfoyle Public School Read to Succeed Results & Anonymous Donation
Congratulations Aberfoyle students! The results of the 2018 Read to Succeed read-a-thon are in. For the month of February, students read a total of 67,000 minutes and through the generous support of family, friends and the community, they raised a total of $5,570.
Funds will be used toward the purchase of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) resources and improvements to our Library Learning Commons.
We would like to thank our major sponsors who generously donated funds to the campaign: Dufferin Aggregates (CRH Canada), St Marys Cement/CBM (Votorantim Cimentos Canada), RLB Group, Tim Hortons Team Aberfoyle, Crunch Fitness, CIBC Wood Gundy and CCL. Their support allowed us to fund the special guests at our kick-off event.
In addition, we received support from several parent owned businesses which funded the prizes awarded to students including: book fair vouchers to be used at the year-end book fair and a pizza party for the class with the highest participation rate.
Once again, parent council would like to thank the Aberfoyle staff, students, parents and the community for their support of this literacy and fundraising initiative.
An Anonymous Donation for the Library Learning Commons!
We have wonderful news!
An anonymous donation in the amount of $25 000 was made to the Upper Grand Learning Foundation to support the further development of Aberfoyle Public School’s Library Learning Commons. This, in conjunction with the Read-a-thon brings our grand total to over $35 000!
You may be aware that a renovation by the Board is planned for this summer. There are a number of projects planned in many areas of the school. We are very excited about these and the renewal of our Library Learning Commons. The shelving around the perimeter of the room will be replaced and new flooring installed. In addition to this, there will be an adult washroom, a new circulation desk, media room for doing green screen, collaborative projects and other creations. In addition, there will be a quiet reading space for students. I have attached a schematic of the proposed changes.
The donation today will allow us to purchase new furniture, technology, books and resources to create flexible learning zones. Our goal is to create a space which fosters engagement through exploration, experimentation and collaboration, a place where students want to be. If you wish to take part in this, please feel free to make a donation to the Upper Grand Learning Foundation at https://www.uppergrandlearningfoundation.com/ and receive a taxable donation receipt. There is a link for online giving that goes through ‘Canada Helps’. Just click on the ‘Give Today’ link and follow the prompts. On the form just indicate that the donation should go to Aberfoyle Public School for the Learning Commons.
We are excited to get the renovations going and to unveil the updated Library Learning Commons this Fall 2018.
