Protecting The Pollinators
Recently, the Ontario government launched the Pollinator Health Action Plan in response to substantial declines in most animal pollinator populations since 2006. The Health Plan spans quite a wide range of issues at various levels from beekeepers to agriculture. There is also some good, solid information for gardeners.
With gardening time, thankfully, upon us I thought I might summarize my latest article and provide some pollinator friendly tips.
- eliminate use of landscape fabric
- don’t overmulch
- create small gravel and rock piles in sunny locations
- use loose leaves on gardens
- rethink the use of bee hotels and bundles
