Multiple Driving Charges Laid In Puslinch
Racing Charge
On April 2, 2017 at approximately 10:35 p.m., a Wellington County OPP officer was monitoring traffic on Highway 6 near Maltby Road in the Township of Puslinch. The officer observed a male driving a 2012 Hyundai travelling at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at approximately 136 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.
A 17-year-old youth has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court May 17, 2017 to answer to the charge. His driver’s licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
Suspended Driver
On April 2nd, 2017 at approximately 2:30 p.m. the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a black Chevy Impala on Victoria Road South in the Township of Puslinch for a seat belt infraction. A passenger in the vehicle was not wearing their seatbelt.
Investigations revealed that the driver of the vehicle was suspended for unpaid fines.
40-year-old Howard McKITTY of Etobicoke has been charged with driving while suspended contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on May 3rd, 2017 to answer to the charge.
Drivers are reminded that on a first conviction of driving while your licence is suspended may result in a fine from $1,000 to $5,000. Subsequent convictions fines start at $2,000 and a driver may also be liable to imprisonment of up to 6 months.
