A Celebration Of Life: Rena Victoria Finlay
It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Rena Victoria Findlay, November 27, 2023.
Rena was born near Bangor, in Northern Ireland, and grew up on the family farm. After high school Rena trained as a teacher and helped to foster a love of reading and learning in many young minds.
Rena emigrated to Canada in July 1974 where she earned her BA at the University of Guelph by day while she worked by night. Rena was brilliant with technology and ultimately worked in IT for Peplow transport in Guelph then Al’s Cartage in Kitchener for the rest of her career. She also volunteered her time with the Puslinch Pioneer.
Rena bought her home in Morriston in the summer of 1986 and loved her “wee stone cottage”. She retired early and enjoyed her garden and travelling for as long as she was able.
She visited many different countries and shared those travel journeys through her humorous story telling.
Rena will be missed by her many friends in the Morriston and surrounding communities and by her family overseas. She is survived by her brother Thomas in Australia and sister Florence in Northern Ireland.
She was predeceased by her parents, Molly and Terrence and her much loved younger sister Marie.
The family would like to thank all of who supported Rena in the community, the many friends who made her day to day life at home continue to be possible, the PSWs who came to be friends as well as caregivers, the community paramedicine team, and the doctors and nurses on 4 East at Guelph general hospital. You all played a part in allowing her to continue to reside in her home with respect and dignity.
