A Celebration Of Life: Wayne McCaig
McCAIG, Wayne Bruce – “Buddy” passed away suddenly at his home in Paris, Ontario on Wednesday, May 13, 2021, at the age of 62.
Beloved brother of Jaqueline (Jaquie) McCaig (Toronto), niece, Jocelyn Hernandez and step- brother, Johnny McCaig (Cambridge). Cherished son of the late Donna Dugas (Smith) and grandson of Norma and Don Smith (Puslinch). Will be sadly missed by cousins and their families: Lee Smith (Puslinch), Pam and Mike Bottos (Waterdown), Kelly and Colin Thomson (Etobicoke), Tracey and Colin Bentley (Fairview, AB), Chris and Laura Smith (St. Augustine, FL), Amy and Ryan Weaver (Elora), Sarah Smith and Leslie Field (Pender Island, BC), Annie Smith and Rob Fernandez (Kirkland, QC).
Fondly remembered by aunts and uncles: Neil and Judy Smith (Puslinch), Susan and Bruce Nicholson (Milton) and Alex (Sandy) and Wendy Smith (Kenilworth). Buddy was very well liked by many friends and left a huge hole in their hearts. He will be remembered with love and many good memories.
Buddy was employed for most of his career with the City of Cambridge. From a young age he was taught to appreciate the land, helping with planting and caring for flowers. Cambridge is a pretty city and Buddy contributed by working with their beautiful gardens. In his position, he also worked in the cemetery and knew everything about burials. He had proudly attained certification in both cemetery burial and horticulture. After 30 years of service, he retired from the City of Cambridge in 2018.
Wayne dabbled in antiques, mainly specialty bottles and old signs. He loved to travel and his humbleness, sensitivity and good humour helped him make friends wherever he went. He had a sincere and tender heart, loved nature and the outdoors. His honesty and purity of purpose made him an exceptional and true friend to all he met. His fresh, youthful approach to life was inspiring and joyful. His smile was like a ray of sunshine.
We love you, Buddy – this old world just won’t be the same without you!
