Puslinch Prowler Playoffs In High Gear
So the first week of Inter-County Softball Associations playoffs has delivered a fair amount of hardware to Puslinch!
Puslinch’s youngest group, The U9s, traveled north to Arthur. A season for this young group that started off scrambling, to get just enough players to have a team, ended with silver dangling from their necks! Great job U9s, the future looks bright for our Young Prowlers!!!
In our largest age group, The U13s were well represented with three teams playing in two different divisions.
The Green Prowlers played hard fought battles and advanced all the way to the to The B Division Championship game where they met their arch rivals from Minto. The two evenly matched teams played an exciting game which ended with The Green Prowlers falling just short and losing out to Minto. Congratulations to The Green Prowlers for taking home The Silver, well done and well deserved!
In The A Division, Puslinch was well represented! The Grey Prowlers and The Black Prowlers went toe to toe with some of closest nail biting games of the year which usually came down to last inning heroics by our Puslinch superstars! In the 4 previous years of playoffs, games have never been so competitive or close. It truly was a game of inches.
The Grey won a key match in the round robin to advance them into the Semi Finals where they met up with The League Champions Drayton. After a hard fought battle and tight game, Drayton prevailed, surrendering Puslinch Grey to play in the Bronze medal game. In a see saw affair against Dundalk in The Bronze Medal game, and going against Dundalk who has one of the leagues best pitchers, Puslinch Grey ended up coming up just short, with Dundalk taking home The Bronze. So proud of our Grey Prowlers for doing so well and looking forward to seeing them expand their medal run for next year!
Where the impossible seemed improbable, The Puslinch Black Prowlers became the cardiac kids of The Tournament. After losing key match ups to Dundalk and Drayton in the round robin, The Black Prowlers snuck into the third spot by winning two very close games against Puslinch Grey and The Ponsonby Stingers by one and two runs. They then had to play Dundalk who soundly beat The Black by 6 runs in an earlier game. Puslinch jumped out to a quick lead in The Semis, which they were able to hold on to, winning 6-5. After advancing to The Gold Medal game, they would now meet The League Champions, Drayton. Drayton pounced on Puslinch quickly taking a 5-1 lead. The Puslinch Black team, like they had done so often in the tournament, had no quit in them! They scratched and clawed their way back to take an 8-5 lead over Drayton. But in the 6th Drayton responded with their own answer, scoring 3 runs to tie the game. It just seemed fitting that the first and second place teams of the league would need extra innings to decide this match. After The Black jumped up by two in the extra inning, Drayton was mounting their own threat with tying run up to bat. In one of the most exciting at bats of the tournament, one of the best pitches of the game was hit by one of the best hits of the game and ended with probably one of the best catches of The Tournament! Congratulations to our Puslinch Black Prowlers for taking home gold for the second year in a row!
What great games, what great tournaments, what a great year! Congrats on the first weekend of playoffs Puslinch where you recorded a fourth place, two Silvers and a Gold! This weekend Puslinch is well represented with our two teams, which both finished at the top of U11 division, playing in Ponsonby in The A Division of U11, good luck Puslinch! The U13 Puslinch Prowler Girls will represent us later this month. Good luck to our U11s and our ladies!!!!
