A Celebration Of Life: Doug Smith
SMITH, Douglas Couper – In his 83rd year, passed away unexpectedly surrounded by his loving family at the Guelph General Hospital on Tuesday, September 27, 2022.
Sadly missed by his family; his wife of 59 years, Glenna (nee Griffith), daughter Cathy, son Jim (Tim), son Dale (Christine) and his three grandchildren – the apples of his eyes – Couper, Mitchell and Danica. Survived by his sisters Jean Warner and Joan Zettel, and his sisters-in-law Vera Spark, Lenora Arbuckle, Wilma Wollis and Marlene Mainland. Predeceased by his parents Wilson and Francis (Sally) and brothers-in-law Maynard Warner, John Zettel, Alvin Spark, Elwin Arbuckle, Wilmer Wollis and Bill Mainland.
Doug was an employee of The Bell for 33 years, a Volunteer Firefighter for the Puslinch Fire Department of 37 years, 10 of which he served as Fire Chief. He was an active member of the community, church and Farnham Cemetery Board.
Friends will be received at the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph, Thursday 7-9 pm, Friday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 11:00 am. To attend remotely via Zoom, please use the link on the funeral home website. Reception to follow in the Wall-Custance Family Reception Centre. Followed by Internment at Farnham Cemetery, Arkell.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Food 4 Kids Guelph, Sunrise Therapeutic Riding, Guelph General Hospital or Duff’s Presbyterian Church.
