Charges Laid After Driver Tries To Avoid Arrest At R.I.D.E. Stop
On December 11, 2020, at approximately 1:15 a.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a R.I.D.E. program on Wellington Road 32 at Lake Road in Puslinch Township.
It was reported that the driver of a grey motor vehicle entered the R.I.D.E. check but failed to stop as directed. Officers managed to stop the vehicle a short distance away. Police spoke with the driver and detected an odour of alcohol on their breath. A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing.
Christopher Thomas GRAINGE, 30-years-old of Haldimand County been charged with;
- Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code
- Resist Peace Officer contrary to the Criminal Code
- Fail to Stop for Police contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
- Drive Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available contrary to the Cannabis Act
A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on January 5, 2021 to answer to the charge.
