Impaired Driver Flees Collision Until Located By Canine Unit
On July 4, 2020, at approximately 8:45 p.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of single motor vehicle rollover involving a possible impaired driving on Highway 6 near Clair Road in the Township of Puslinch. The vehicle was seen weaving prior to losing control entering the ditch and rolling over. Further information was received that the driver was leaving the scene and was last observed running through a cornfield.
Containment was set up and the OPP Canine Unit was dispatched. A search was conducted of the area and the driver was located. Police spoke to the driver and determined that their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired and they were placed under arrest. The accused was transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing.
Dwayne ROSTANT, 32-years-old of Toronto has been charged with Impaired and Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on August 7, 2020.
