Puslinch Resident Charged With Personating A Police Officer
On April 22, 2020 at approximately 4:40 p.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Crime Unit arrested a 25-year-old individual following a complaint that someone was observed personating a police officer.
Investigation revealed that on April 17, 2020 1:00 p.m. the complainant along with his family were riding their bikes in the area of Watson Road South and Stone Road in the Township of Puslinch when a vehicle approached them and stopped.
The vehicle was described as a black older model Ford Explorer Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) with a push bumper on the front and it appeared to be an unmarked police vehicle. The vehicle had a yellow/orange flashing lights in the rear window and the complainant heard the driver yell something at them over a public address (PA) system.
The complainant believed that the person was a police officer in a police vehicle.
As a result of the investigation the Wellington County OPP Crime Unit has charged Gregory Calvin SMITH of Puslinch Township with Personating a Peace Officer contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on July 31, 2020 to answer to the charge.
