Puslinch Council May Consider Water/Sewage Services That Could Cost More Than $100 MILLION
Public meeting to be held Thursday March 22nd at the Puslinch Community Centre to discuss.
A notice was posted on Friday March 16 on the township website indicating that there will be a public meeting to discuss this issue.
According to a report by the Advertiser, the overall cost of the system could be more than $100 MILLION for sewage and water, just to serve a small geographic portion of Puslinch. Many questions immediately come to mind, here are just a few:
- Will residents/businesses NOT in the new water/sewage service zones have to help pay for the mew services (via taxes or special levy) even though they are not receiving them? Will council commit to not charging anyone not in the service area a single penny toward these services?
- The entire need for water/sewage service seems to be predicated on the idea that more growth is needed in the township.
- Why is this additional growth needed? Did we not already spend a lot of money on a master plan that indicates our target growth rates? Does Wellington County not already have an official plan projecting growth rates for our area?
- Will this additional industrial and residential growth offset some of the tax burden for existing Puslinch residents and businesses or is this just growth for the sake of growth?
- What environmental impacts will all this additional growth (and therefore water taking) have on our local environment?
- What advantages are there to our community in having a municipal water/sewage system installed?
If you have any questions or concerns of your own I would suggest you contact council members and attend the public meeting. Here is the meeting posting from the township website that went up on Friday:
Dear sir or Madam:
Could you please tell me if residents outside the study area are being charged for the study ?
Thanks, Jim McClure
I am not positive, but I think all residents of Puslinch Township are paying for this study via regular taxes. You would have to ask the township to confirm this though. That could be a good question to ask at the meeting on Thursday.
Why is council considering water and sewers when 90% of Puslinch is still without natural gas ?
