A Celebration of Life: Riddell, John Gordon
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dad, John Riddell on Thursday January 19, 2016 at St Andrew’s Terrace, Cambridge. He has gone to be with his Lord and his beautiful wife Shirley who preceded him in death in 2011; they are now together and at peace forever.
John was born on August 22, 1928 in Puslinch where he was raised on the family farm. Dad was an amazing man and loved his family deeply. He leaves behind his children Diane Wilkinson (the late Lorne), John Cameron Riddell (Kelly) and Carol Moore (Donnie). He was the proud grandfather of the late Blair, Stephen, Brent, Chris, Cameron and Courtney. Beloved brother of R.K., the late Jim, Lorne and Donald. John will also be sadly missed by his numerous nieces, nephews, friends and his four legged friend Luke. Predeceased by his parents Grayce and Robert Riddell.
John enjoyed a longtime career, retiring as Platoon Chief with Cambridge Fire Department, he was a past Master of the Alma Masonic Lodge, a member and elder for over 50 years at Knox’s Galt Presbyterian Church, he was an devoted fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Toronto Blue Jays, he coached hockey and baseball and was an avid fisherman, hunter, conservationist, who enjoyed camping, boating and dogs. There isn’t a man on earth who loved his family more.
At John’s request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Knox’s Galt Presbyterian Church, 2 Grand Ave. S., Cambridge, on Tuesday January 24, 2017 at 3p.m. with visitation being held from 2p.m. until time of service. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
