UGDSB Students may get report cards after all
By Joanne Shuttleworth – GUELPH — Upper Grand elementary students will still be getting only Letters of Promotion at the end of the school year. But their report cards, containing marks only and not comments, will be available for pick up at their current school on Aug. 31 or Sept. 1.
It’s still not possible to input the data and issue report cards before the end of June, said board spokesperson Maggie McFadzen. But the board has decided it will have them prepared for pick-up before the next school year begins.
Schools are closed until Aug. 31.
“We have to find the people, figure out the timing and find the funds to pay them,” McFadzen said. She said the cost of farming out the work has not been calculated yet, but it will come from the existing budget.
It can’t be done by school secretaries as they belong to a union as well and won’t do the work of unionized staff in a legal strike action, McFadzen said….
