Thank You Puslinch
When the concept of a local web portal for Puslinch first came up over a friendly dinner I thought it was a great idea, but had no idea how it would be received by the community or how well it would be used. I knew that for this to be as successful as it could be we would need three things:
- Community involvement for content creation
- Help spreading the word about the new website
- An appetite for quickly updated, relevant local news and content in Puslinch
Well, today marks just the sixth full day since we launched PuslinchToday.ca last Monday afternoon and I simply could not be happier! We have had all of the above three points in abundance from the moment we flicked the proverbial switch and turned the site live. The response we have received from the Puslinch community at large has been nothing short of extraordinary and really has made all the hard work and effort worth while.
In our first six days of publication we have had over four thousand page views on our website and reached thousands more via our facebook and twitter feeds. Google News has even been picking up some of our articles and using them in the daily News Feeds they send out to their subscribers!
While keeping everyone updated on what’s new and happening in Puslinch Today, we also feel it is equally important to help people remember our past and heritage. That is why we have dedicated an entire section on the site to ‘History’ articles. I was very proud to publish our first article in this section yesterday written by Marjorie Clark entitled ‘History Corner – The Village of Glen Christie’. If you haven’t seen it yet, take a look by clicking here – it’s well worth the read. I hope we will have many more such features prominently published on this site.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has contributed so far and remind everyone else that we are always looking for content, be it a full story or simply a letter to the editor. The only requirement we have is that the content be very ‘Puslinchcentric’ (did I just make up a word?). Simply visit the contact-us page to send us your letters, content or questions. Also, please be sure to visit our local business page and events calendar to keep up with whats happening in the community.
As a final thought, I’d like to thank my co-founder, Daina Makinson for making this site happen. If it wasn’t for her drive and community involvement this website would never have gotten off the ground. I can make a website, but Daina can make it part of the community. I have been wanting to do something like this for a long time, but knew that until I could partner with someone like Daina it simply wasn’t going to happen.
I am really looking forward to seeing how this site evolves over the coming months and years,
Thank You,
Kevin Johnson
