Puslinch Kodiaks fastball update June 29th
The Kodiaks entertained fans this week with 2 great games.
The first game was played at Home vs. the third place Mississauga Arrows. The Kodiaks battled hard but fell behind early with the arrows hitting a second inning home run. The Kodiaks saw the Arrows pitcher twice and the hits became contagious. In the 4th inning the Kodiaks took the lead, 5 to 3, but they could not contain the Arrows. Another home run and a couple hits put the Arrows up 7-6. The game came down to the very last out, but the Kodiaks were unable to get the win.
Final Score: Arrows 7 Kodiaks 6
LP – David Jefferson (1-1) 4 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 2 K; Mike Haines 3 IP, 2 ER, 1 K
John Blair 3-4, Brian Jefferson 3-4, Matt Haines
The Kodiaks played the Niagara Falls Fury for the first time this season on Thursday night. The Fury have Scott Wagar, a high ranking ISC pitcher on their roster. The Kodiaks were able to get hits against Wagar, but it was Scott’s bat that did the damage. He hit a 2 run HR late in the 5th to put the Fury ahead and then they shut the door. There was no lack of excitement at this game as the Kodiaks had the tying run at third base for the last out of the game.
Final score: Fury 6, Kodiaks 5
LP – David Jefferson (1-2) 1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB; Mike Haines 5.1 IP, 10 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, 4 K
Kodiaks – J.J. Gallo 2-3, RBI; Mike Lajoie 1-3, HR; Brian Jefferson 2-4
This game was a great game to watch as there was a lot of good base running by the Kodiaks that helped get them earn runs. An inside the park HR by Mike Lajoie was very rare to see… especially from Mike! The Kodiaks always have fun when they see pitching like that. It helps prepare them for what to expect in tournaments later in the year.
I would like to invite everyone in the township to please come and support the Kodiaks in this years ORSA Men’s Grand Championship tournament. This tournament is being hosted by the Kodiaks July 24th-26th. Games will be played both out of Old Morriston ball park and in Aberfoyle at the Community Centre. Last time (2013) the Kodiaks hosted this tournament, they won! It’s time for the Kodiaks to bring back the Championship, and there is no better way to do than at home in front of a loud crowd. We look forward to seeing everyone there.
